ISPA Releases the Q3 2019 Bedding Market Quarterly

This issue of the Bedding Market Quarterly (free to ISPA members, purchase required for non-members) shows that for the 3rd quarter of 2019, total unit shipments of mattresses, stationary and motion foundations from US producers and imports were 7.9% below comparable data for 2018, and the value of those units were down 4.0% year over year. The year-to-date units were 7.6% below comparable data for 2018, and the value of those units were down 3.7%.

Turning to reported US-produced mattresses and stationary foundations, unit shipments were 11.3% below the level of sales for the same period in 2018, while the wholesale value of those shipments were 3.4% below last year, resulting in the Q3 2019 average unit price being 8.9% above Q3 2018. The year-to-date shows that units and dollars were down 14.3% and 4.2% respectively, while AUP was 11.7% above the same period 2018.

The Bedding Market Quarterly reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) based on data provided by 13 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for 71.3% of the mattress units shipped and 58.7% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2018. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Market Quarterly results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given quarter, weather conditions, etc.
