SSB Makes Leadership Changes

Atlanta-based mattress major Serta Simmons Bedding LLC has promoted three key executives and hired two.

Melanie Huet, formerly executive vice president of marketing and innovation, now is chief commercial officer. She also continues as chief marketing officer. Huet has been instrumental in developing SSB’s portfolio of brands since joining the company in 2019 and helping it become “a consumer-centric organization,” a news release said.

In her new role, Huet leads an expanded team covering sales, marketing and innovation functions. She works with Chief Sales Officer Derek Miller to accelerate SSB’s omnichannel approach.

Shelley Huff continues as chief executive officer of SSB brand Tuft & Needle and takes on the added role chief operating officer. Previously, she was executive vice president of direct-to-consumer. Huff joined the company in 2020 and is playing a critical role in building the direct-to-consumer business of SSB’s portfolio of brands, the release said.

Huff’s responsibilities also include overseeing the supply chain and customer experience teams, bolstering the company’s digital-first mindset and better leveraging data and technology to drive growth across the business.

Industry veteran Bob Hellyer assumes a new role executive vice president of strategic initiatives. Previously, he was chief supply chain officer. Hellyer leverages his deep industry expertise and strong relationships throughout SSB’s value chain. He also has responsibility for supporting the commercial team in accelerating breakthrough innovation, a release said.

Two new hires join the operations team, reporting to Huff.

Cream Pepito is senior vice president and chief technology officer for direct-to-consumer. Most recently, she was a technology executive with Northwestern Mutual. Pepito is responsible for leading the technology strategy for SSB’s direct-to-consumer business. She brings extensive experience leading various technology-enabled transformations for companies in financial services, logistics and manufacturing.

Bhavani Subramaniam was hired as senior vice president of integrated supply chain and is responsible for the company’s direct-to-consumer supply chain, enterprise logistics and warehousing, as well as sales and operational planning. Subramaniam joins SSB from Walmart and has more than 20 years in supply chain leadership roles.
