Bedding Market Quarterly Reports Mattress Sales Down in 1st Quarter

Mattress market performance Q1 2023 is down from previous year.

Total units and wholesale dollars dropped 24.6% and 15.1% respectively in the first quarter of 2023, compared with the first quarter of 2022, according to the International Sleep Products Association’s Bedding Market Quarterly.

For the 1st quarter YTD total for U.S.-produced mattresses and foundations, both unit shipments and wholesale dollars were down 20.5% and 11.8% respectively compared to the same period in 2022, while Q1 YTD average unit price increased by 11%.

The Bedding Market Quarterly reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) based on data provided by 12 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for 49.6% of the mattress units shipped and 66.3% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2022.

This quarterly report does not include U.S. sales of motion foundations. ISPA encountered data issues when collecting and analyzing sales and has discontinued reporting that information.
