Hartford, Connecticut-based Gold Bond, an independent mattress manufacturer, has launched a boxed bed model, the Ultra 12-inch all-foam mattress. The mattress features the company’s new ArcticTouch cooling technology and a 5-pound, carbon-infused visco foam, among other features.

“There’s been a stigma around bed-in-a-box mattresses where they’re perceived as lower quality, so it took us a while to find the right version that would live up to the Gold Bond reputation for quality,” said Gold Bond CEO Robert Naboicheck. “We have found several new innovations that enable Ultra 12-inch to be that level of quality while embracing the convenient shipping model inherent to the bed-in-a-box models.”

The Ultra features a multilayer construction that prioritizes comfort and performance, company officials said. The base is comprised of a 7-inch high-density foam topped with a 2-inch comfort layer that helps create a plush feel. In addition, a 2-inch layer of ultra-soft visco foam contours to the body.

The mattress differentiates itself from other boxed beds by using a 1-inch, carbon-infused, 5-pound, super-soft visco foam, according to a news release. Beyond providing pressure release, the carbon traps odors and pollutants to maintain a fresh sleeping environment. All the foam is CertiPUR-certified, meaning it’s free of phthalates, heavy metals and “tris” flame retardants.

Gold Bond has also integrated elements to help keep sleepers cool. The Ultra features an open-cell design, facilitating airflow compared to conventional memory foam variants, enhancing breathability and dissipating heat effectively, company officials said.

In addition, Gold Bond incorporated ArticTouch fabric, an advanced material that increases thermal energy exchanged compared to traditional polyester fabrics, which helps foster a cool and comfortable sleep surface.

The Ultra retails for $2,499 in queen and can be shipped either in a box or flat-packed, depending on the retailers’ and consumers’ preferences. It’s also adjustable-friendly and delivered within four to five days.
