Industry In Motion: The Need For Change

Today I have decamped to my local library for some peace while I work. It’s one of my favorite places. I’m seated at a table beside large windows that overlook benches, bird feeders and a swath of trees whose tips are just starting to turn orange and yellow. It’s one of those sunny fall days when the sky is so clear all the greens and golds pop against it.

Without a doubt, there’s beauty in change, especially at this time of year.

Industry In Motion: The Need For Change

That’s not to say change is easy. Oftentimes major shifts are foisted upon us. None of us can control the economy or geopolitical forces that impact business. However, we can make changes in our own spheres of influence to weather whatever headwinds we face.

We’ve seen this in the sleep products industry over the past few years with business acquisitions and shifts in factory locations. In October 2024, foam producer Carpenter Co. acquired Casper Sleep. That same month, machinery supplier Elektroteks bought Mammut. It’s almost been a full year since Southerland joined forces with 3Z Brands. This February, Somnigroup, the parent company of Tempur Sealy International, rocked the mattress world when they officially acquired Mattress Firm Group. A month later, Gribetz joined ABM International. Check out this month’s profile on Gribetz.

These are just a few of the big announcements. It’s a lot of movement and change.

We’re also seeing movement in circularity within the industry. This year, the International Sleep Products Association hosted its fourth sustainability conference in Atlanta. As always, it was energizing and encouraging to have all these industry members in one space, focused on a shared goal — how to make their facilities and their products more sustainable and how to share that message with consumers.

A little closer to home, we’ve refreshed the website design for BedTimesMagazine.com. The new site is, I think, easier to use. We clarified some categories and the search function is more robust. Plus, it has a cleaner look and feel. I hope you enjoy it. If you want to take a quick look, use the QR code on the right.

As an industry, we don’t sit still. That’s a good thing. We want to provide the best components and sleep products so that we can make the world a little better — one good night’s rest at a time.
