Brand Now Offers Options for Products with Bonnell Units

HARTFORD, Connecticut – Leading independent mattress manufacturer Gold Bond is once again charting new ground for the industry by offering a new construction option for some of its best-selling collections designed with knotted Bonnell coils. The company has introduced a new, high-quality, 630-pocket coil unit from Leggett & Platt to accommodate the growing consumer preference for adjustable bases.
The change will not result in any additional costs for dealers or consumers.
Gold Bond has been using premium pocketed coil systems for its more luxurious models for some time. But the upgrade to pocket coil is now being extended to its most popular budget-friendly mattress lines like the best-selling Westport, Greenwich, Litchfield and Classic collections, now known as Newport, Chatham, Andover and Concord. The new pocketed coil components also now allow for a choice of comfort in Cambridge, one of the company’s most high-volume products, and led to the creation of Mystic, a new softer version of the two-sided mattress that is adjustable friendly.
“The advantage of using pocketed coil construction is that it is ideal for use with adjustable bases and also offers enhanced motion separation in the mattresses,” said Skip Naboicheck, president of Gold Bond. “Pocketed coil unit construction also enhances comfort significantly with its ability to contour to the body with less partner disturbance. In essence, without changing price points, we are offering our customers an elevated product that they can sell with confidence, with the same level of quality, longevity and warranty they have always enjoyed from Gold Bond.”
“Pocketed coil is perceived as a better spring system and is typically associated with premium product,” said Bob Naboicheck, chief executive officer of Gold Bond. “While the knotted Bonnell coils we have long used in our budget-friendly collections are known for great durability, they are not suitable for use with adjustable bases which have become a key element in today’s sleep solutions.”
He added that each of the upgraded mattresses has also been enhanced with fashion-forward covers “that result in the beds being perceived as twice as expensive as they are.”
Gold Bond is among the first manufacturers to adopt Leggett’s new 630-coil unit, and the only manufacturer to run it with edge-to-edge steel construction, a detail that has long set Gold Bond’s mattresses apart in terms of durability.
All of the changes have been made with an eye toward encouraging door swings at retail and offering better value. “Leggett saw there was a need for a lower price point pocketed coil because of the advantages it provided and the growing popularity of adjustable bases,” said Bob Naboicheck. “We moved quickly to offer an individually pocketed coil mattress that had a significantly lower price point than would have been possible before this unit was introduced. Our dealers now have the option to replace products on their floors that were not adjustable base friendly, with two-sided products featuring durable edge-to-edge steel construction that are adjustable friendly. It’s simply a better value for consumers.”
The company will continue to use knotted Bonnell construction in mattresses produced for colleges and universities. They will also offer the construction as an option for dealers who prefer it.
