New Recycling Fee Set for Connecticut

Beginning Oct. 1, 2026, the recycling fee collected on each mattress and foundation sold for use in Connecticut will increase to $19.50 per unit. This increase is largely driven by rising minimum wages and operational costs for collecting, transporting, and disassembling mattresses.

“We’re committed to our successful Connecticut recycling program and actively work to control costs and find efficiencies across our supply chains despite broad inflationary pressures,” says Mattress Recycling Council’s Chief Operating Officer Mike O’Donnell.

The recycling fee will remain a flat rate and must be visible on the receipt. Those registered to report and remit the recycling fee to MRC received further details in a notice issued on MRCreporting.org.

In September, retailers registered with MRC’s Connecticut program will receive updated posters and customer handouts. MRC will also make copies of these materials available to download from MattressRecyclingCouncil.org.

For questions or assistance in communicating the fee increase to customers or staff, please contact MRC at [email protected].
