Customatic taps Chris Henning as EVP of sales and marketing

Adjustable base supplier Customatic Adjustable Bedz has hired industry veteran Chris Henning as executive vice president of sales and marketing.

Henning brings more than 30 years of home furnishings experience to the newly created position. In his new role, he focuses on expanding Customatic’s retail customer base, developing key account relationships and contributing to the company’s branding and marketing initiatives.

“This is a very exciting time for us,” said Phil Sherman, president of Customatic Adjustable Bedz, based in Natick, Massachusetts. “Part of Customatic’s strategic corporate growth plan is to continue to introduce … innovations into the marketplace and explore new sales channels. To accomplish this goal, we are investing in an ‘all-star’ sales team to get the job done.”

From its inception, “Customatic was built on the relationships that (company co-founder) Phil McCarty and I have with people in the industry,” Sherman added. “Chris is one of those people—he’s been our customer and friend for years. His industry experiences range from working with established corporate brands to elevating new sleep technologies into household names.”

Henning’s career began in 1987 at Simmons Bedding Co., where he worked his way up from key accounts manager to vice president of sales.

From 2002 to 2007, Henning was part of a team that put memory foam mattresses on the map and in bedrooms across the United States, serving as vice president and then president of Tempur-Pedic Retail. In 2008, he joined Kingsdown as president of North America sales, where he oversaw all retail channel sales in North America, as well as Central America and South America.

In 2010, Henning joined King Koil as senior vice president of strategic planning and business development, where he led corporate sales teams and implemented strategies for sales, marketing and merchandising.

Henning also has served as president and chief executive officer of Dormeo Octaspring and, since 2015, as president and chief operating officer of Wesley Allen, a manufacturer of iron beds and other furniture.

Founded in 2010, Customatic Adjustable Bedz distributes products internationally through partnerships with top-name mattress manufacturers, leading distributors and major specialty sleep retailers.
