In March, Atlanta-based Serta Simmons Bedding LLC partnered with nonprofit Relief Bed International to donate 10,000 hospital mattresses to facilities in New York City, an epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are committed to ensuring those who are hospitalized have a bed available where they can receive care and heal,” said David Swift, SSB chair and chief executive officer. “That’s why … we are ready, with our factory footprint and distribution network, to produce an additional 20,000 beds a day.”

In addition, SSB and Seattle-based Relief Bed have continued their philanthropic efforts with the launch of “Stay Home, Send Beds.” The campaign facilitates mattress donations nationwide to hospitals and temporary medical facilities in need. Visitors to a new SertaReliefBed.com web page can donate hospital beds in the city of their choosing. For every 25 donations, SSB will donate another bed.

“At times like these, we all have to ask ourselves what we can do to help,” Swift said. “Serta Simmons Bedding understands the importance of giving back to those in need with the resources we have available, and we hope to encourage our fellow citizens and our fellow bedding manufacturers to do the same.”

Relief Bed founder Scott Smalling added, “Our early cooperation with Serta Simmons was fantastic. While it continues, other U.S. suppliers of products have really been inspired to come alongside to help with the efforts. Relief Bed also is now gearing up to supply face shields.”
