HS2 LLC, a joint venture between Hickory Springs (a division of HSM) and Spinks, has obtained Greenguard Gold Certification for two glue-free innerspring systems — Micro Advanced Comfort Technology microcoils and the Flexecore pocket spring system. According to a news release, a queen-size sheet of “Micro” contains as many as 5,000 microcoils meant for the top comfort layer of a bed. Flexecore is an innerspring system for the mattress core that is manufactured on special equipment and has a unique concertina-like construction.
“As individual industry leaders in pioneering advancements in mattress component technologies, through the HS2 joint venture, HSM and Spinks have been focused on developing a healthier alternative to traditional foam and fabric encased coil-based mattress constructions. We are now proud to offer both of these products with the trusted and proven Greenguard label,” said Tim Witherell, vice president and general manager for Hickory, North Carolina-based Hickory Springs. “In this age of increasing eco-consciousness, Micro and Flexecore help create healthier indoor environments by releasing fewer pollutants into consumers’ homes that can contribute to health issues, including asthma and other respiratory issues.”
“Nearly 70% of consumers in the U.S. and Canada think it is important that a brand is sustainable or eco-friendly, according to a new study by IBM and the National Retail Federation,” Witherell said. “In addition to emitting low (volatile organic compounds), Flexecore is also potentially up to 100% recyclable, making the product well positioned to help eliminate waste to landfills.”
HS2 has the exclusive right to produce and distribute Micro and Flexecore in North America.
Spinks is the components division of Leeds, England-based Harrison Spinks.
The Greenguard Certification Program, and the stricter Greenguard Gold Certification, provide assurance that products meet specific indoor air quality emissions limits.
