GhostBed, an online mattress retailer and maker of boxed beds with headquarters in Plantation, Florida, is teaming up with legendary tennis champion Venus Williams, first on a collection of mattresses and, later, on a full line of sleep accessories and other home furnishings.

The bedding company expects to launch the first products from the new collaboration later this year.

Williams is well-known as a winner of seven Grand Slam titles, five Wimbledon titles and four Olympic gold medals, but she has other interests and businesses, including 20 years of design experience through V Starr, her full-service commercial and residential interior design firm.

“From the first time we met, both Venus and I realized we shared the same strong family business values and entrepreneurial drive needed to deliver something special and unique for the sleep products industry,” said Marc Werner, chief executive officer and founder of GhostBed, in a news release. “From the very beginning of our relationship there has been total synergy between Venus and the GhostBed team. She will be involved in everything from the design of the product to the creative strategy behind the launch. We couldn’t be more thrilled with this collaboration.”

As both an athlete and entrepreneur, Williams said she is an advocate for a good night’s sleep. “An invigorating night’s sleep has improved my performance, on and off the court, and I’m looking forward to launching this new collection with GhostBed to educate others on how sleeping on the right mattress can totally transform quality of life,” she said. “Restorative sleep is essential, and that’s something I can’t wait to bring to consumers through this collection.”

Williams has taken her competitive spirit from the court into the business realm with both her design firm and her activewear brand, EleVen by Venus Williams, the news release said

GhostBed, part of Nature’s Sleep, ships from 15 distribution points across the United States and two distribution points in Canada.
