ISPA Forecast: Growth in Wholesale Mattress Values Will Continue to Outpace Unit Shipments

The Statistics Committee of the International Sleep Products Association has released its fall forecast for the U.S. mattress market, which covers the remainder of 2021 through 2023.

For 2021, the forecast shows an 8.5% increase in the wholesale dollar value of mattress shipments and a 1.5% increase in units shipped. For 2022 and 2023, the forecast anticipates a 4.5% increase in the value of mattress shipments. It shows a 1.5% increase in units shipped in 2022 and a 2% increase in units shipped in 2023.

ISPA has updated the forecast model for the total U.S. mattress market to include motion foundations (from any source) and imports of foundations with legs, which were not included in previous forecasts due to the limited availability of historical data.

The consensus forecast is based in part on an economic analysis prepared by the University of Michigan and input from the ISPA Statistics Committee.

The report also contains economic and market analyses by Jerry Epperson, managing director of Mann, Armistead & Epperson Ltd., an investment banking and corporate advisory firm, in Richmond, Virginia; and Ashraf Abdul Mohsen, vice president of economic research for Association Research Inc. in Gaithersburg, Maryland. ISPA updates and publishes the forecast two or three times a year, depending on market conditions.

The complete report is available to ISPA members at SleepProducts.org.
