United Mert Makina, a global supplier of quilting machines, tape edge machines, flange machines and half cappers, roll packing machines and automatic production lines for glue and packaging for mattress production, has hired Tim Watson as its new vice president of North American sales. Watson, who started with the Delray Beach, Florida-based company at the end of July, will cover the continental United States and Canada and assist the company’s partners in South America and Mexico.
Watson comes to UMM with 28 years of experience in mattress manufacturing, He joined United Mert Makina from Atlanta Automation Co. (formerly Atlanta Attachment Co.), where he most recently was regional sales manager for the Eastern United States and Mexico. Previously, he held several roles with Simmons Bedding Co. as manufacturing facilities operational manager, senior industrial engineer and director of new product development.
“This is a new opportunity for us at UMM,” Watson said about joining the team. “We all know that the market is very fluid right now. To gain and maintain market shares, you must be faster on your feet and price competitive, being able to deliver with installation and service behind the sale, and that is what we offer.”
According to Watson, UMM’s size — small but powerful — gives the company agility. Watson says when he is meeting with a customer, he is able to share line pricing on the spot to secure a deal.
“What we’re trying to do at United Mert Makina is deliver the highest quality machines at the best value prices,” said Michael Porter Jr., director of sales and board member at UMM. “In addition to that, we also have the best service, technical service, installation service and after-sales service in the business, because we know people pay a lot of money for these machines. With Tim’s knowledge in the mattress industry, we look forward to being the most supportive partner we can to customers in the United States and globally who are making mattresses.”
