Winter Blues & Spring Hope: Industry Trends & ISPA Conference Preview

I hope as you read this, spring is peeking around the corner. It’s probably a bit optimistic, I know.

As I write in February, North Carolina is preparing for its third winter storm this year. I keep peering out the living room window anxiously, wondering when the weather show will start.

Why all this talk about the weather? Two reasons. The first is Kathryn Greene’s article on colors of the year. Overall, the colors chosen by paint companies and trend forecasters strike me as moody. They’re earthy and rich. But they’re also cozy, and that’s certainly something I’m seeking right now. When times are unpredictable (aren’t they always?) sometimes all you want are small comforts — a book, your bed, a piece of chocolate and some coffee. Many of those colors reflect that. I wonder what the color forecasters will read into the zeitgeist for 2026.

The second reason I’m thinking about dreary winter weather is probably obvious. The International Sleep Products Association Industry Conference is coming up March 19-20 and I’m pining for the sunny weather Florida usually provides.

I know some will enjoy hitting the links and soaking in the sun. Others of us will enjoy wandering the area around the hotel, with water on one side of the building and charming shops on the other. But the best part will be getting to see familiar faces and meeting new colleagues. ISPA provides plenty of opportunities to mix and mingle, starting with the ISPA Women’s Network Reception, followed by the Welcome Reception on March 19. The next day we’ll be treated to several thought-provoking speakers. I’m particularly interested in the opening keynote on the future of work by Seth Mattison. But all of the sessions look great, and I’m excited to learn.

The cherry on top will be the Industry Awards Dinner, where ISPA will honor its former president, Ryan Trainer, with the Exceptional Service Award and recognize Hank Little, former president of Atlanta Attachment Co. (now Atlantic Automation Co.) with the Vanguard Award. The Mattress Recycling Council will share its appreciation for Covestro by bestowing the MRC Distinguished Service Award. All these awards are so richly deserved. We are lucky to have these voices in our industry.

If you haven’t registered for the ISPA Industry Conference, it’s not too late. Visit ISPAIndustryConference.com to save your spot. I look forward to seeing you there.

And, now, if you’ll excuse me, I might go back to bed with a book and wait for this winter storm to arrive.
