ISPA Staff Spotlight: Robin Mykytyn, who supports the association’s publications and events.
As the ad production and sales coordinator for the International Sleep Products Association, Robin Mykytyn supports and manages the production process for ISPA’s industry trade publications, BedTimes and Sleep Savvy, as well as digital advertising for the magazines’ websites, and the BedTimes in Brief and Sleep Savvy Shop Talk newsletters. Mykytyn also invoices and bills for print and digital advertising and assists with ISPA events.
Outside of work, Mykytyn is a big proponent of buying local and loves frequenting farmers markets. Reading is another hobby. She frequently settles down with a book on her back deck that overlooks a wooded area and a creek, which is also where she enjoys taking her dog, Layla, for long walks.
BedTimes: What drew you to ISPA?
Robin Mykytyn: I appreciated ISPA’s mission and was excited about mattress recycling because of the MRC team. Promoting sustainability is high on my list, as well. I was also impressed with ISPA’s reputation for hiring and retaining great people. Being part of a team that works well together was a draw for me. So, when the opportunity was offered, along with the chance to work for Kerri Bellias — ISPA’s vice president of sales, events and publications — I was very excited.
BT: What’s something about ISPA people might not know?
RM: This may be common knowledge, but I am impressed with ISPA’s Better Sleep Council and its focus on the connection between sleep and health. They provide resources and information that could be useful to folks who are struggling with sleep. For example, tips and advice are provided to help find the best position for sleeping, which can benefit anyone who has difficulty with pain, sleep apnea or other problems. They also provide information about your sleep environment, which I find to be very helpful, as well.
BT: What is one of the most exciting things you’ve accomplished since working for ISPA?
RM: Relationships are important to me, and I have enjoyed and appreciated forming connections, even through email, with our advertisers. I admire their dedication and enjoy learning more about the industry through our relationships.
BT: What is a book, podcast or movie you enjoyed recently that you want to recommend to others?
RM: While I can easily get sucked into television shows and movies, lately I have been more inclined to read in my spare time. I just finished the book, “The American Queen,” by Vanessa Miller.
I found the book to be profoundly moving and because I am a fan of historical fiction, I thought the story was incredibly interesting. Miller was careful to preserve as many facts and details as possible and weave them into the narrative. The main character, Louella, who was enslaved, had a dream of creating a refuge and home for as many formerly enslaved people as possible before settling in Appalachia. I will let you discover the rest.
