For many International Sleep Products Association members, ISPA wouldn’t be ISPA without Jane Oseth. The manager of member services and statistics, Oseth has worked at ISPA for 30 years, making her the association’s longest-tenured staff member. Helping members feel heard and supported is something Oseth takes immense pride in: “I spend a lot of time working directly with our members. Whether it’s answering questions, helping solve problems, or providing data, I try to make sure everyone feels supported and taken care of.”
BedTimes: As the longest-tenured staff member at ISPA, can you share what keeps you recharged and passionate about this industry?
Jane Oseth: It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years! I’ve seen the organization and the industry evolve in so many exciting ways. What keeps me energized is that no two days are ever the same—from dynamic events to important advocacy work, there is always something happening. Most of all, it’s the relationships with our members that keep me motivated. Being able to help and make a difference is incredibly rewarding.
BT: What drew you to the industry initially?
JO: I’ll admit I thought it might be a little boring at first. I mean, how exciting can mattresses be? I quickly discovered the opposite! It’s a vibrant, innovative industry full of dedicated professionals, and I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging and fast-paced it is.
BT: What’s something unique about ISPA that people might not know?
JO: One thing that really stands out about ISPA is the strong sense of community. It’s not just an association; it’s a network of people who genuinely support one another. There’s a collaborative spirit that makes it feel like you’re part of something bigger.
BT: What is one of the most exciting projects you’ve accomplished at ISPA?
JO: There isn’t just one thing—it’s really all the moments where I’ve been able to help a member or be part of something that made a difference. Whether it’s supporting an event or helping improve a process, those are the things that stand out to me.
BT: Can you share a few details about your family and personal life?
JO: I live in Frederick, Maryland, with my husband of 39 years, Kevin, and our rescue dog, Tango. Chris, my son, and his wife of 12 years, Stephanie, are the proud parents of Olive, 8, and Lemon, 6. Our adorable granddaughters are absolutely the joy of my life.
BT: What hobbies or passions do you have outside of work?
JO: I enjoy walking my dog, reading a good book, doing a little shopping, exploring the mountains, and relaxing on the beach whenever I can. I enjoy a mix of staying active and just unwinding.
BT: What’s something unique about you that people might not know?
JO: I’m very detail-oriented in both my personal and work life.
BT: How would you describe your personality, and can you share an example?
JO: I’m naturally introverted, so being proactive in person doesn’t always come naturally to me—but I’ve learned how to step outside of my comfort zone. At EXPO and in meetings, I make a deliberate effort to engage with both members and staff, start conversations, and participate more actively.
BT: What is a book, podcast, or movie you enjoyed recently that you want to recommend to others?
JO: I recently saw “Project Hail Mary,” and I’d definitely recommend it. It’s funny, has some deeper moments, and really pulls at your heart in a good way.
