Clarke, an attorney, will direct the association’s state and federal governmental affairs efforts and represent ISPA and the mattress industry on a broad range of regulatory and legislative issues with federal, state and local governments and policymakers, as well as relevant nongovernmental organizations. In addition, she will manage the government affairs needs of an ISPA affiliate, the Mattress Recycling Council.

“I am very excited to be joining the International Sleep Products Association and the Mattress Recycling Council,” Clarke said. “I’m looking forward to meeting members and serving the industry as an advocate on legislative, regulatory and policy issues at the federal, state and local levels.”

Prior to joining ISPA, Clarke served as counsel in the Government Affairs Division of the American Coatings Association. While at ACA, she served as the lead advocate for PaintCare, an industry-led product stewardship program operating in eight states and the District of Columbia that allows consumers to take back leftover house paint for recycling and proper disposal. She co-founded ACA’s Sustainability Committee and served as counsel to the International Paint and Printing Ink Council. Clarke is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the District of Columbia.

“We are thrilled to have Marie join the ISPA and MRC team,” said Ryan Trainer, president of both ISPA and MRC. “Her strong experience in managing legislative and policy matters on behalf of another trade association and nonprofit in addressing manufacturing and recycling issues is directly relevant to the type of work in which both ISPA and MRC are involved. I am confident Marie will be a good fit with both our membership and staff. I look forward to working with her as she uses her lobbying capabilities and project management skills to advance the interests of both organizations.”
