Mattress Land, Kingsdown team up for private-label beds

West Coast sleep shop chain Mattress Land has selected Mebane, North Carolina-based mattress manufacturer Kingsdown to produce its existing 14-model private-label SleepFit brand of mattresses.

The beds are sold at Mattress Land’s 22 stores in California, Idaho, Nevada and Washington.

According to a Kingsdown news release, Fresno, California-based Mattress Land has been a customer since 2009.

“The Mattress Land team understands the importance of marrying consumers with a mattress that will deliver proper support and a good night’s sleep,” said Kevin Damewood, Kingsdown executive vice president of sales and marketing. “We’re proud to have been selected to develop products for their proprietary SleepFit line.”

SleepFit beds retail from $399 to $3,000 in queen size. Higher end beds have pocket coils, upgraded knit covers and Carpenter’s Serene foam. All SleepFit beds work with Mattress Land’s BedFit diagnostic system, which is a proprietary version of Kingsdown’s BedMatch technology.

“We are extremely excited about where the Kingsdown-built SleepFit will take us,” said James Smith, founder and chief executive officer of Mattress Land. “SleepFit has become part of our DNA at Mattress Land, and every consumer who comes in the store to buy a mattress goes through the process of being fitted. Teaming up with Kingsdown and its focus on technology to help consumers find the right mattress makes perfect sense.”
