In December, Corsicana Mattress will open a 165,000-square-foot plant in La Porte, Indiana, dedicated solely to boxed-bed manufacturing. When the site is at full capacity, it will employ 350 people and produce 1,500 pieces per day.
Before taking occupancy of the site, which is undergoing retrofits, the Dallas-based manufacturer has opened a temporary office in Michigan City, Indiana, to begin hiring and training employees.
“We have had significant growth in our boxed-bed business and require a facility that is appropriately equipped with well-trained employees to provide the manufacturing efficiency to support that growth,” said Michael Thompson, Corsicana chief executive officer. “Indiana was a great location for us and the local, regional and state agencies we worked with have been very helpful and welcoming throughout this process.”
According to a news release, the new plant will allow the company to reduce lead times and increase its ability to offer same-day shipping for roll-pack models sold under the five Corsicana brands — American Bedding, Early Bird, NightsBridge, Renue and Sleep Inc.
The Indiana site was chosen for its proximity to foam suppliers and logistics companies, and comes with a package of tax credits and incentives from local and state authorities valued at $2.3 million.
Sheila Matias, president of the La Porte County Commissioners, said: “This was a unified effort by elected officials and our economic development team in successfully luring Corsicana Mattress to La Porte County and, with it, some 350 new good-paying jobs. This is a home run for our economic development team.”
The company also has introduced its first adjustable base. The Optimax Motion Base retails for as little as $799 but is packed with high-end features such as zero-gravity position, head tilt, dual motors and more. It can be used with or without its removable legs, folds flat for easy shipping and is compatible with all Corsicana mattress brands.
Corsicana manufactures a full range of promotional and step-up beds and has a 10-plant nationwide manufacturing footprint, including a nearby facility in Aurora, Illinois, making traditional, flat-packed mattresses.
