The total U.S. mattress market posted a 10.7% decrease in the wholesale dollar value of shipments last year compared with 2021. And units shipped also decreased by 14.7% over the same period.
Those figures, which include U.S.-produced and imported mattresses and foundations, are highlights of the 2022 Mattress Industry Trends Report issued by the International Sleep Products Association.
The dollar value of U.S.-produced mattresses and foundations decreased in 2022 to $9.1 billion, down by 12.1% over 2021, and unit shipments also decreased to 29.0 million, down 19.2% over 2021, the report says.
The 2022 Report includes combined U.S. market data for mattresses and foundations that are both produced in the United States and imported. Included in the report is research conducted by ISPA’s Better Sleep Council that examines consumer behavior and the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC), which highlights data concerning MRC’s mattress recycling and research efforts.
The report combines data for all imported products into one chart, allowing readers to analyze all imported products (including mattresses, traditional stationary foundations and motion foundations, as well as foundations with legs and foldable foundations with legs) at the same time.
Overall, the Average Unit Price (AUP) for all U.S.-produced mattresses and foundations increased by 8.9% in 2022.
