Christina Pennant’s professional journey began 20 years ago in the United Kingdom. After stints in fashion apparel, interiors and home furnishings at Abercrombie & Fitch, Kohl’s and Ikea, she landed at High Point, North Carolina-based fabric producer Culp Inc., where she is the director of design and merchandising. When she’s not deep into the creative process, she enjoys making meals, catching up with her loved ones, listening to music and dancing, usually while cooking.
BedTimes: Tell us about your bedtime routine.
Christina Pennant: Around dusk, I prepare the room for sleep with full-on turndown service, without the chocolate: Curtains drawn, the sheet and duvet turned back and the lights are dimmed. I check the temperature to ensure the bedroom is chilled to around 68 degrees.
BT: What do you avoid before bed?
CP: Nothing.
BT: How many hours of sleep do you typically get?
CP: Seven hours is pretty standard every night.
BT: Pets in the bed – yay or nay?
CP: Nope, no fur.
BT: Barefoot or socks?
CP: Barefoot. I truly dislike hot feet.
BT: What’s on your nightstand?
CP: Lamp, coaster and book.
BT: Are you a napper?
CP: No. It makes me cranky.
BT: What are your best sleep tips?
CP: Shower before bed, have few or no electronics in the room and (install) blackout curtains — a game changer.
BT: What are your secrets for getting a good night’s sleep while traveling?
CP: Depending on where I’m going, I travel with my own pillow (feather/down), which I squish and pack with my own pillowcase.
BT: Is there anything else you would like to add?
CP: I use 100% cotton sheets with a super high thread count. It’s the perfect balance to help me sleep. Also, I turn the ringer off on my phone.
