One of the things I’ve come to appreciate most during my time at the International Sleep Products Association—especially over the past year and a half—is just how personal this industry really is. For all the innovation, scale, and sophistication behind the products we make and sell, the mattress industry remains grounded in relationships. We are, at our core, an industry built on people.
I see this at every event, every member meeting, and in countless conversations across the industry. A discussion that starts on the show floor turns into a business relationship. A handshake leads to collaboration. Familiar faces quickly become trusted partners. This is not an industry that operates at arm’s length; it values connection, credibility, and doing business with people you know and respect.
As we prepare for ISPA EXPO in March, that reality is top of mind. People sometimes ask why attending still matters when information is readily available online and meetings can happen virtually. The answer is straightforward: In-person experiences create a different—and deeper—kind of impact.
ISPA EXPO is, of course, about product. It’s about seeing what’s new, understanding where the market is heading, and learning how suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers are responding to change. The education sessions are designed to move your business forward, and the show floor reflects the depth, creativity, and momentum of this industry.
But at the end of the day, EXPO—and really our industry as a whole—is about people.
It’s about the conversations that happen between meetings. It’s about reconnecting with someone you’ve worked with for years and meeting someone new who may shape what comes next. It’s about doing business with people you trust—because trust is earned in person, over time.
In my role, I’ve been struck by how accessible and engaged this industry is. Ideas are exchanged openly. Experience is shared generously. Titles matter far less than insight and follow-through. There is a directness here that I value and a sense of camaraderie that makes this industry both effective and enjoyable to be part of.
I feel genuinely fortunate to work alongside such a dynamic group of leaders and companies. ISPA exists to bring this community together—to create the space where relationships form, collaboration happens, and progress follows. Whether through EXPO, our conferences, or ongoing engagement, those connections are central to everything we do.
As our marketplace continues to evolve, the importance of those relationships only grows. New technologies, new channels, and new challenges will continue to emerge, but strong, trusted partnerships remain the foundation of long-term success.
As you plan for ISPA EXPO, I encourage you to think beyond the agenda. Think about the conversations you want to have, the relationships you want to strengthen, and the new connections you want to make. Those moments—often informal and unscheduled—are where real value is created.
I look forward to seeing many of you in Orlando, Florida, on March 10–12, and continuing the conversations that make this industry not only successful, but one I’m proud to be part of.
