Spring Air Taps Existing Licensees to Service Mid-Atlantic Region

NEWS RELEASE

WOBURN, Massachusetts — Spring Air International, a top U.S. bedding manufacturer and globally recognized consumer brand, is turning to adjacent factories in the Northeast, Midwest and South to serve current customers, following the closure of Pennsylvania Bedding. Spring Air is also actively seeking a new licensee for the available territory, which includes Washington D.C., Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and the upper half of Ohio. A region that boasts the number one buying power index (BPI) in Spring Air’s organization.

Pennsylvania Bedding, a family-owned mattress manufacturer founded in 1906, and based in Old Forge, Pennsylvania became a Spring Air licensee in 2008, distributing Spring Air products across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. The company had shared leadership with and was a key supplier to now-defunct retailer Metro Mattress, which at its peak operated 70 stores across New York and New England.

“Unfortunately, the closing of Metro Mattress was a major blow for Pennsylvania Bedding that precipitated a severe decline in their ability to effectively service the territory and triggered our process of terminating their license prior to the factory actually closing its doors. We immediately moved to implement a proven plan we have deployed in other regions of the country before to fully service our customers throughout the licensee’s region on an interim basis,” said Nick Bates, president and chief executive officer of Spring Air International.

Indeed, as a legacy licensing organization, Spring Air has developed many proven techniques and protocols over the years to ensure that customers are not adversely affected by periodic changes in Spring Air’s licensee structure.

“No one is going to be without product, and all current customers will be taken care of by one of the current licensees,” Bates said. “We have been working for the better part of two months to prepare for this eventual outcome.”

The company currently operates 13 domestic factories and has expanded globally with 19 international licensees across 39 countries. With a legacy built on innovation and craftsmanship, the brand remains a trusted name in sleep solutions, continuously striving to enhance the sleeping experience for customers worldwide.

Founded in 1926, Woburn, Massachusetts-based Spring Air International is a top U.S. bedding manufacturer and a widely recognized consumer brand. The company serves retail customers nationwide and operates in nearly 70 countries through its international network. Spring Air continues to empower retail partners with quality, innovation, and integrity—values that have guided the brand for a century. For more information, please visit www.springair.com
