NEWS RELEASE

WOBURN, Massachusetts – Spring Air International has appointed veteran Macy’s buyer Charles Kangethe as its new director of national accounts. In his new role, Kangethe will lead Spring Air’s national account strategy, focused on deepening relationships with current national retail partners and onboarding new large-scale accounts to bring the Spring Air brand to more consumers nationwide.
“We are in a very competitive retail environment and Charles’ deep understanding of what it takes to achieve increased sales at higher tickets from a showroom floor will greatly benefit our dealers,” said Spring Air President and CEO, Nick Bates. “We have terrific products, exceptional manufacturing partners, state-of-the-art customer service, and now we also have a proven sales leader with deep understanding of how to increase sales. Charles rounds out a very deep and experienced senior leadership team for our brand.”
Kangethe spent the last decade at Macy’s, starting as a merchant assistant in their dress department before quickly moving into leadership roles in the men’s division, helping drive significant sales increases into the men’s fashion and tailoring division. His success ultimately led to a senior buying position on the Macy’s mattress team in 2024, where he directed strategic merchandising plans, vendor relationships and helped introduce the Spring Air brand.
“In my time selling Spring Air mattresses, I knew they built incredible mattresses and their business approach was very sound. From my first meeting with Nick and learning more about the brand, I immediately saw the potential in what we could further build together,” said Kangethe. “There are so many retail opportunities and together, we know we can continue to drive meaningful, long-term growth for the Spring Air brand.”
With a background in luxury goods, Kangethe also sees opportunity for Spring Air’s premium collections, notably the Chatham & Wells line with retailers and high-end department stores.
“The Chatham & Wells collection is one of the best premium mattresses on the market and is a story consumers need to know. People love stories, they want to know the history of the product and what makes it special. The combination of its high-end design and unique story is what has driven this line’s success and expansion over the years, and I am excited to build on this momentum and elevate the category even further,” said Kangethe.
Kangethe attended Lehman College, where he received his bachelor’s in organizational and industrial psychology from Excelsior University. He currently resides in Middletown, New York.
