Volunteers from the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Hood, C.H. Robinson and Walgreens unload mattresses donated by Tempur-Pedic to the Austin Ronald McDonald House.

Specialty sleep manufacturer Tempur-Pedic, with headquarters in Lexington, Ky., has delivered its 5,000th bed to Ronald McDonald House Charities. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home away from home” for families so they can stay close to their hospitalized child at little or no cost.

The 5,000-bed milestone was reached Sept. 20 with Tempur-Pedic’s delivery to a 30-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in Austin, Texas.

Tempur-Pedic began outfitting Ronald McDonald Houses with beds in 2009, a move inspired by Tempur-Pedic employees who had begun volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington.

C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc., a logistics and transportation provider, has handled distribution and delivery of the beds since 2009, providing its services at no cost.

“Tempur-Pedic’s mission is to help people get their best night’s sleep every night, and we know this is particularly valuable for the parents and caregivers staying at a Ronald McDonald House,” said Mark Sarvary, Tempur-Pedic chief executive officer. “We’re thankful to be helping families stay together, rest together and support each other in a great time of need.”
