Houston-based sleep shop chain Mattress Firm has partnered with the maker of a climate-control system for mattresses, BedJet LLC, headquartered in Newport, Rhode Island. BedJet was invented by former NASA engineer Mark Aramli in 2013.

BedJet is a stand-alone unit that can quickly heat or cool a bed to a desired temperature. It sits near the foot of the bed and blows warmed or cooled air to the mattress surface via an air duct. The unit is controlled with a wireless remote or a Bluetooth-enabled smart device.

Inventor Aramli’s background includes designing heating and cooling systems for spacesuits.

Prior to announcing the deal, Aramli appeared on the ABC reality show “Shark Tank,” but failed to win over any investors. The segment didn’t discourage Mattress Firm. The retailer plans to begin retailing BedJet in March on its website.

BedTimes covered BedJet at Las Vegas Market last summer:

According to Brian Baxter, Mattress Firm senior vice president of merchandising, “Our customers regularly tell us that temperature control is an important factor in their ability to get a great night’s sleep. We are always looking for ways to provide our them with the highest level of product and service, and we look forward to offering the BedJet as a climate-control solution.”
