It’s good to see a woman at the top of one of the mattress industry’s most recognizable and successful brands.

On June 1, Shelly Ibach officially took the reins as chief executive officer at Select Comfort. She succeeds longtime president and CEO Bill McLaughlin, who was instrumental in the creation and launch of the Sleep Number brand and led the company since 2000–through some very transformative times. BedTimes covered Ibach’s appointment in the April issue.

Ibach is the company’s former chief operating officer. She also was named to the board.

Women in the boardroom is a good thing–as this May feature in Fast Company states, “a business case can be made as to why having women at the boardroom table or as executives can significantly increase companies’ profits.”

I’m proud that the mattress industry is setting an example with the promotion of Ibach. Here’s hoping it’s just the beginning of a new age of female leadership on boards and in C-suites across this industry.
