Veteran industry supplier Richard Hooker dies

Richard Hooker, who retired as national sales manager of Hickory Springs Mfg. Co.’s bedding products division in 2001, died April 26, at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Fla. He was 69.

Hooker spent 25 years with the Hickory, N.C.-based mattress industry supplier. He began in the bedding business and rose to the position of vice president at his family’s Metal Bed Rail Co. in Lexington, N.C., a company started by his father.

Hooker was an active member of the International Sleep Products Association. In 1998, he received one of the association’s highest honors, the Robert MacMorran Memorial Award, in recognition for his meritorious service to the sleep products industry.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughter Stephanie Hooker Plemmons; son Alex; brother Joe; and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 S.E. Indian St., Stuart, Fla., 34997.
