Reducing employees' commutes to work

long line of cars in highway trafficWhen it comes to sustainability efforts, many businesses think first about reducing the use of natural resources in their facilities and recycling. But improvements to sustainability can go far beyond that.

Leaders in Denver recently released a report laying out a variety of sustainability goals the metropolitan area hopes to reach by 2020. Not unexpectedly, among the targets is reducing city energy consumption by 20%. But the report also calls for city government to fill at least 95% of job openings with workers who live within a 90-minute public transit commute of their workplace.
