Comfort Solutions targets firefighters with new Flare design

Comfort Solutions donates Flare beds to Mebane firefighters

Comfort Solutions donated new King Koil Extended Life Flare mattresses to the Mebane Fire Department in Mebane, N.C., for its sleeping quarters, which accommodate 15 career and 40 volunteer firefighters. Career firefighters work 24-hour rotating shifts.

As part of a marketing campaign aimed at fire departments and emergency services, mattress licensing group Comfort Solutions took its Flare design concept to the 2013 Fire Department Instructors Conference in Indianapolis April 22-27. At the show, the Willowbrook, Ill.-based company invited comparisons between traditional mattresses and the Flare design by displaying two King Koil Extended Life models side by side—a Flare twin XL and a conventional twin XL.

The company announced it has donated King Koil Extended Life Flare mattresses to the Mebane Fire Department in Mebane, N.C. The new bed sets replaced mattresses that were up to 20 years old.

“Because emergency organizations usually use smaller mattresses to conserve space in sleeping quarters, we can think of few other professions or situations where the addition of as much as a half foot of side-to-side space for an adult would be more needed or welcomed,” said Brandon Dunn, Comfort Solutions vice president of business development and a Mebane volunteer firefighter for 16 years.

Mebane Fire Chief Bob Louis said, “Our firefighters don’t often get to sleep through the night, so it’s very important to our community that they’re comfortable and can sleep well during the times they can. The extra 6 inches of sleep surface is a significant advantage to an adult sleeping on a smaller mattress.”

Flare mattresses and information on sheets that fit Flare beds will be made available to fire stations and emergency service organizations across the country through a manufacturer-direct program that begins May 1.
