Standard Linens broadens protectors, top-of-bed selection

Toronto-based textile product supplier Standard Linens Inc. has broadened its sleep accessories offerings with the introduction of a line of sharply priced mattress protectors, duvets and pillows.

The Terry Cotton and Quilted mattress and pillow protectors have KnightGuard and Feel Thru technology. There are three grades of pillows and duvets, which include a down-alternative fill called DownTex.

In describing the new product line, Dan Wingold, vice president of sales and marketing, said, “In essence we’re dumbing it down. We recognize that to maximize revenue from the category retailers must combine high attachment with high margins. There is only so much the majority of customers are willing to pay for a protector, duvet or pillow. All of the recent innovations, as impressive as they are, too often result in the product being priced away from the sweet spot for the majority of customers, resulting in a lost sale.”

Distribution includes Canada and the United States. A majority of the line is manufactured in Toronto.

“We plan on providing retailers with their core bedding basics at prices that deliver the highest revenue possible from the category,” said President Oliver Altiparmakyan. “We’ve been providing various textile products to bedding and mattress retailers for years now, as well as point-of-purchase and point-of-sale items, so expanding with these new lines seemed a natural progression.”
