The Associated Press featured adjustable base and mattress manufacturer Reverie in a May 22 story on reshoring—the growing trend among some U.S. manufacturers to move overseas production to the United States.
In the article titled “ ‘Made in the USA’ Back in Style for Small Businesses,” Martin Rawls-Meehan, Reverie president and chief executive officer, cites soaring shipping costs from Asia as a factor in his decision to move assembly of the company’s 7S adjustable bed from Taiwan to Silver Creek, N.Y. “I could put that money into the manufacturing side in the U.S. (In fact,) shipping costs have risen to as much as 20% of the wholesale cost of a bed made in Asia. In 2004, it was just 10% on some of Reverie’s products.”
