October mattress sales see healthy rise

U.S. mattress and foundation unit sales grew a healthy 5.4% in October, as compared with October 2012, according to the Bedding Barometer, a monthly sales report published by the International Sleep Products Association. The wholesale dollar value of those units was $420.9 million, an increase of 4.3%. The average unit selling price inched downward 1.1%.

During the first 10 months of 2013, unit shipments rose 1.6% and wholesale dollar revenues were up 2%, as compared with the same period of 2012. The AUSP decreased slightly by 0.4%.

The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity for 14 U.S. mattress producers. Participating companies account for 70% of the mattress units shipped and 78.5% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2012.
