Mattress Source files for bankruptcy protection

According to a June 16 story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis-based Jamat LLC, which does business as sleep shop chain Mattress Source, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and plans to close some of its 13 stores in Missouri and Illinois.

Mattress Source is a six-year-old retailer owned by husband and wife Barry and Valerie Seidel.

Barry Seidel said the company would retain all 40 of its employees and “expects to come out of this stronger than ever.”

The Post-Dispatch said Mattress Source owes creditors more than $170,000, the majority in credit-card debt.
