Down and Feather Council touts success of labeling program

New York-based trade group the American Down and Feather Council announced that its Labeling Compliance Program, launched in 2007, has been a success in making certain that natural-fill bedding products sold in the United States are correctly labeled and meet packaging and advertising claims.

The program allows any party to register a complaint against a suspected inferior product. Once filed, complaints are investigated by a third-party laboratory.  Since 2007, dozens of complaints have been filed and investigated. In the previous three years, complaints have escalated, indicating that the industry is “doing a thorough job of policing itself and ensuring product quality,” the council said in a news release.

Compliant products are permitted to display the circular, blue ADFC label on packaging.

“The Labeling Compliance Program gives retailers and consumers of down and feather products confidence in the quality of the products and accuracy of labeling and packaging claims,” said Stephen Palmer, ADFC chairman. “We are pleased to see compliance levels are so strong within our industry.”
