Mattress retailer Sit ‘n Sleep has announced that Howard Cooper, the Gardena, California-based company’s executive vice president of finance and chief financial officer will retire at the end of the month.

He joined Sit ‘n Sleep in his present role in 1999, and as he helped the company grow, so did his responsibilities, the company said. Accounting, distribution centers, facilities and customer service, as well as the IT department, all report to Cooper.

“Howard’s been an integral part of our Sit ‘n Sleep family, helping to grow and guide the business over the past 15 years,” said Larry Miller, Sit ‘n Sleep chief executive officer. “His passion and commitment will be missed. While we’re sad to see him leave, we wish him the very best in the next chapter of his life.”

Among his retirement plans, Cooper looks forward to writing a book about change and improving human potential.

Thirty-year-old Sit ‘n Sleep currently has 34 “superstore” locations throughout Southern California.
