Hypnos collaborates with designer on bed collection

Luxury bed maker Hypnos, headquartered in Princes Risborough, England, along with British retailer Furniture Village, based in Slough, launched three headboard, divan and mattress sets designed by Amira Hashish, an interior designer and journalist.

This bold black-and-white upholstered headboard and divan called The Swan is the result of the partnership between Princes Risborough, England-based Hypnos, British retailer Furniture Village and interior designer Amira Hashish.

The goal was to make the bed the centerpiece of the bedroom, “bringing style and comfort together for modern living,” according to a news release.

The limited-edition, three-bed collection is available through August at several Furniture Village stores and on the retailer’s website. Customers may purchase the Hypnos headboard alone or the headboard with coordinating divan and mattress.

Each of the three bed sets has a distinct design influence—from tribal to nautical to Scandinavian.

The new looks are Hashish’s product design debut. She has worked in the industry for more than 10 years as a journalist, consultant and TV personality. In creating the collection, she collaborated with London-based Insley & Nash, which specializes in traditional screen printing, and with digital textile producer Flock.

“When Hypnos approached me to design a boutique bed collection, I knew we had an exciting project on our hands,” Hashish said. “Our vision was to combine Hypnos’ 100 years of craftsmanship and British heritage with contemporary looks and fabric printing techniques. We created all the patterns from scratch, where I drew on my own inspiration as well as trends which I believe will stand the test of time.”

Chris Ward, group marketing director at Hypnos, said, “At Hypnos we have perfected the art of sleep for over a century and our beds and mattresses are engineered to create the perfect environment for sleep. We have nurtured this craft and we wanted to look at how we could combine our traditional skills with a new generation of British designers and fabric makers. Working with Amira has been the perfect partnership to bring this concept to life and we’re delighted to partner exclusively with Furniture Village to offer this collection to its customers.”
