Relief Bed directs efforts to Texas storm victims

Seattle-based charity Relief Bed International is accepting donations aimed at assisting those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Founded in 2015 by mattress industry veteran Scott Smalling, Relief Bed provides portable beds to relief agencies around the world, with a special focus on U.S. homeless shelters. To date, it has distributed 7,000 beds, pads and mats.

“Now we are faced with Hurricane Harvey, which is already being called one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history, with reports of as many as 30,000 people headed to shelters in the affected areas,” Smalling said. “We desire to have a major impact on (those) lives affected by the storms by providing a comfortable place to sleep and restore mind, body and soul. Sleep is the No. 3 biological need, (topped) only by food and water. We have partners (on the ground in) ravaged areas that are (providing) us immediate feedback on shelters that need our product.”

Smalling asked that those interested in donating to Relief Bed’s efforts in Texas, do so online at ReliefBed.org/donate. Corporate donors may contact Smalling by email, [email protected], or phone, 253-312-0653.
