Lexington, Kentucky-based Tempur Sealy International Inc. committed an additional $1.5 million in bed donations and contributions to support recovery efforts in Texas and Florida following Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
The latest commitment brings the company’s total planned hurricane-related contributions to nearly $2.5 million.
Tempur Sealy’s contributions will provide mattresses to assist victims in Texas and Florida in the rebuilding process after the devastation caused by the hurricanes. Tempur Sealy is working primarily with its long-time disaster recovery partner, Good360, which coordinates directly with local recovery agencies to meet the needs of families impacted by disasters.
Because of the large scope of need following back-to-back hurricanes, Tempur Sealy is donating beds from its entire family of brands, including Cocoon by Sealy, Sealy, Stearns & Foster and Tempur-Pedic.
In addition to committing more than $2 million worth of beds for hurricane victims, the company also has earmarked as much as an additional $400,000 to establish a support fund for retailer-directed charitable contributions.
“It’s been hard to watch the devastation caused in Florida by Hurricane Irma on the heels of the damage in Texas caused by Hurricane Harvey,” said Scott Thompson, chair and chief executive officer. “But just as we witnessed in Texas, it has been inspiring to see the citizens of Florida pull together to help neighbors, friends and even strangers. As they begin to rebuild their lives, we want them to know that we and our retail partners will be there to help.”
