Mattress licensing group Spring Air International, with headquarters in Chelsea, Massachusetts, has signed new licensee Johnson City Bedding Co., based in Johnson City, Tennessee. Established in 1934, family-owned Johnson City also has a Restonic license and it manufactures the Springwall brand as well as for private label.
According to a news release, the new licensee will build Spring Air Back Supporter and Chattam & Wells beds beginning Sept. 1. Johnson City’s Spring Air territory covers Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee. The region is part of the 26-state territory previously serviced by licensee Corsicana Mattress Co., whose agreement with Spring Air officially ends Aug. 31.
“This is a key addition to the Spring Air family as we continue to add … regional producers to our network of licensees,” said Nick Bates, president of Spring Air. “The Johnson City Bedding team has well-established relationships with retailers throughout their licensing territory and will be able to immediately capitalize on the strength of the Spring Air brand.
“We’re focusing on like-minded independent manufacturers who share our vision and will take advantage of the full range of products and services we offer.”
Commenting on the deal, Bob Parker, Johnson City president, said: “Spring Air is a perfect fit for us. It has great brand recognition among consumers and retailers, and the agreement allows us to (boost our average unit price and) sell into some markets where we currently don’t do business.”
The Spring Air brand has been in production since 1926 and now is sold in more than 40 countries.
