Greenville, Florida-based Compass Sleep Products is teaming up with the United Way to help families whose homes were severely damaged when Hurricane Idalia hit Florida’s panhandle last month.

The company is donating 100 mattresses to families in need in Madison and Taylor counties.

The United Way of the Big Bend will distribute vouchers, and families will have up to three months to redeem them for either twin, full or queen mattresses. Recipients will be able to go to the Compass factory showroom for the exchange.

“So many families throughout the state were impacted, but none more than our neighbors in Madison and Taylor counties,” said Ricky Riley, CEO and general manager of Compass. “It has always been our mission to help our community and witnessing the consequences of this hurricane compelled us to take action.

“We appreciate the help of the United Way in administering this program for us. It is designed to run over a three-month period because people will be rebuilding their homes at different times so we realize not everyone will need new bedding at the same time. We are ready to help them with mattresses when they are ready.”

The local United Way has taken a leadership role in this rural and impoverished part of Florida by gathering resources and developing focused solutions, he said. The group will be distributing the vouchers through partner organizations in the affected area.

“We are grateful to be receiving a very generous donation from Compass Sleep Products,” said Berneice Cox, president and CEO of the United Way of Big Bend. “The company’s generosity is so appreciated. They join a very special list of Blue Chip Florida businesses who are stepping up and helping out after this devasting hurricane.”
