Paris Gholston Nightcap Q&A

Nightcap Q&A With Paris Gholston

Paris Gholston is the customer relations coordinator for the Mattress Recycling Council and has been in the industry for nearly nine years. In her free time, she enjoys traveling the world with her best friend, spending time with her boyfriend, keeping up with Alabama football, working on her golf swing and, obviously, sleeping!

BedTimes: Tell us about your bedtime routine.

Paris Gholston: I am a creature of habit, so I am all about a routine. My bedtime routine consists of a nighttime shower, turning my bed down, completing my five-step dental hygiene routine, and spraying my room and bed with my BSC lavender room and linen spray. I also always fill up my water bottle and sit it beside my bed with my eye mask. Finally, I set the TV timer for 30 minutes and nestle in for a night of peaceful rest.

BT: What do you avoid before bed?

PG:  I try my best not to eat too late and especially nothing too heavy before bed. There is nothing worse than feeling too full before lying down.

BT: How many hours of sleep do you typically get?

PG: Those who know me will tell you I love sleep, so much so they know not to call/text me after my Do Not Disturb is set on my phone. I do my best to get no less than seven hours of sleep each night and eight on a good night. I am not a morning person, so for everyone’s sake that encounters me in the morning, I need those seven to eight hours.

BT: Pets in the bed – yay or nay?

PG: I don’t currently have a pet, but when I did have a dog, it was rare that I allowed him to sleep with me.

BT: Barefoot or socks?

PG: Absolutely NO socks in bed. That is a non-negotiable for me.

BT: What’s on your nightstand?

PG: My laptop, linen spray, ChapStick, a book, a candle and flashlight.

BT: Are you a napper?

PG: I fully regret not taking more of those naps as a kid. Now, I am certainly a napper, especially if I don’t get that mandatory seven hours.

BT: What are your best sleep tips?

PG: Don’t force it. Just relax and allow yourself to fall asleep naturally. I personally like a cool-temperature room and think everyone should give the weighted blanket a try.

BT: What are your secrets for getting a good night’s sleep while traveling?

PG: Being the avid traveler that I am, I never leave home without my eye mask. It is a game changer for me. I also like to keep melatonin in my toiletries bag because getting out of the routine and sleeping in a different environment can make you uneasy. It helps me settle.

BT: Is there anything else you would like to add?

PG: My motto is: Sleep is essential.
