When Trina Solomon isn’t leading teams or building brands at Standard Fiber, where she’s the vice president of marketing and brands, she’s likely chasing sunshine. A true beach lover, she calls Manhattan Beach, California, home, and tropical beaches are her happy place. Solomon is also a longtime yoga enthusiast and former instructor who still finds joy and balance in the practice. In our Nightcap Q&A With Trina Solomon, we explore more about her passions and experiences.

BedTimes: Tell us about your bedtime routine.

Trina Solomon: I’m not big on routines. Variety keeps things interesting. But one thing I always do is put my phone on the charger at least an hour before bed. I’m connected most of the day, so unplugging gives me space to wind down. I also love getting into bed early. It feels like a little luxury at the end of the day.

BT: How many hours do you typically sleep?

TS: Nine hours is my sweet spot. About once a week, I clock in a full 12 hours. And I wear that badge proudly. I’m in the sleep industry, after all. Consider it leading by example!

BT: What’s the best sleep product you own and why?

TS: I’m big on creating a great sleep environment. I layer my pillows: down, foam and poly because I love the mix of support and comfort. Having worked in the mattress industry, I fully appreciate the value of a good mattress. Lately, I’m loving linen sheets, but I still rotate them with crisp cotton.

BT: What are your best sleep tips?

TS: Sleeping well is a mindset. We live in a culture that often glorifies burnout, but we need to rediscover and start celebrating the importance of sleep instead. Let’s normalize bragging about how much we sleep — not how little. Sleep improves everything: your mood, your work, your relationships. I identify as a good sleeper, and I think that belief makes it true. Like anything, it takes practice.

BT: Where is the last place you got a great night’s sleep that wasn’t your house?

TS: A beachfront cabana at a yoga retreat in Koh Samui, Thailand. Panoramic ocean view. Pure magic.

BT: What are your secrets for getting a good night’s sleep while traveling?

TS: Vacation sleep is easy because I’m already more relaxed. Work trips are trickier with tight schedules and increased stress. My advice? Prioritize sleep. If you’ve got a 6 a.m. flight, maybe skip the late dinner. Make room for rest in your itinerary.

BT: Pets in the bed — yay or nay?

TS: Absolutely yay. I love a good pet snuggle.

BT: What do you do that breaks traditional sleep rules?

TS: I like to be warm. Really warm. In a world obsessed with cooling everything, I pile on comforters and skip the AC. This makes me a bit of a challenge as a house-guest or hotel roommate. I bring the heat, literally. Let’s just say, I’m not everyone’s ideal sleepover companion.

BT: What do you do if you have insomnia?

TS: I try not to fight it. Usually, if I’m awake it’s because my mind is busy. If I can work through it mentally, great. If not, I shift my focus, grab a snack, read or turn on a show. I try to make my awake time enjoyable instead of stressing about the clock.

BT: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

TS: What makes for great sleep is personal. Pay attention to the nights you sleep well — what products you used, how you felt and what the environment was like. Whether it’s the right pillow, feeling safe or the perfect temperature, knowing your formula is the key. And once you’ve got it, repeat it as often as you can.
