ISPA releases April 2015 Bedding Barometer

The latest Bedding Barometer (paywall), a monthly report of U.S. mattress sales published by the International Sleep Products Association, shows that unit sales of mattresses and foundations increased 2.5% in April 2015, compared with the same month of 2014, while the wholesale dollar value of those units grew 4.7%.

The average unit selling price of mattresses and bases grew 2.1% compared with April 2014. Year-to-date unit sales and the wholesale dollar levels of those units increased 4.7% and 7.0%, respectively, compared with the same month in the prior year. Year-to-date AUSP also increased 2.2%.

Looking at trends during the previous three months, ISPA data shows that from February 2015 to April 2015, units grew 3.7%, wholesale dollars increased 5.3%, and the AUSP increased 1.6%.

The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 13 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for 70.1% of the mattress units shipped and 78.2% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2013.

The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
