Comfort Solutions co-owner Caldwell dies

William Caldwell IV, an owner and 20–year board member of mattress licensing group Comfort Solutions (formerly King Koil), died suddenly on Dec. 13. He was 63.

“Bill was a very active member of our board and always passionate about the company,” said Dave Roberts, president of the Willowbrook, Ill.–based company. “He will be greatly missed both personally and professionally by many people inside and outside our company.”

Along with his involvement in the bedding industry, Caldwell was chief executive officer and board chairman of the biotech firm Advanced Cell Technology Inc., which specializes in stem–cell research.

Caldwell lived in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; three sons; a stepdaughter; a stepson; and a sister, Candace Smith, who also is a director of the Comfort Solutions board.
