Bedding inspector Hancock dies

Samuel Clifton Hancock of Asheboro, N.C., died Jan. 17 at a hospital in Lexington, N.C. He was 60.

Hancock worked for the state of North Carolina for 38 years. The majority of his career was spent as a state bedding inspector.

“He took great pride in his work and was highly respected in his field. He not only served the people of North Carolina, but contributed on a national scale as president of the International Association of Furniture and Bedding Law Officials,” said Carletta H. Hensley, a colleague in the Sleep Products Section of the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services.

Hancock held a dive master certification in scuba diving and often rode his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife, Gail; daughter, Shannon; son, Chad; and five grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC 27203 or to Brenner Children’s Hospital, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27157-0001.
