Mattress Firm Holding Corp., owner of Houston-based sleep shop chain Mattress Firm, has acquired regional chain Mattress Giant, based in Addison, Texas.
With the purchase, Mattress Firm adds about 180 stores in seven markets throughout Texas and Florida. In 2011, Mattress Firm purchased 55 Mattress Giant locations.
The company is rebranding all Mattress Giant stores under the Mattress Firm brand umbrella, which includes use of the retailer’s signature “Comfort by Color” merchandising approach.
As a result of the acquisition, Mattress Firm is now the largest bedding retailer in the United States with nearly 1,000 storefronts. It is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ that held an initial public offering at the close of 2011.
