High-end mattress manufacturer Royal-Pedic, which has headquarters and a retail storefront in Beverly Hills, Calif., has signed a licensing deal with Zamhat Trading Ltd. in Cape Town, South Africa, to open a Royal-Pedic-branded retail store in Johannesburg by year’s end.
Two additional Royal-Pedic stores are planned for South Africa, as are stores in the Middle East. The stores will carry a full line of Royal-Pedic mattresses and top-of-bed products.
“There’s an elite group of people in South Africa who are interested in luxury goods, but they often must travel abroad to purchase them,” said Tony Kelemen, Royal-Pedic chief executive officer and principal. “More manufacturers are recognizing the opportunity in this emerging market.”
