Mattress Development Co., the parent of licensing groups Eclipse International and Eastman House with headquarters in North Brunswick, N.J., has inked two separate licensing deals for the brands.
Mohit Rubber Foam Pvt. Ltd.—a newly formed partnership between Mohit Malik, owner of Mohit Rubber, and Pradeep Khanna, manufacturer of Indian innerspring brand Flora’s Spring Mattresses—is licensed to sell the Eclipse brand throughout India.
The Delhi-based licensee, doing business under the name Eclipse of India, will manufacture and market a complete line of Eclipse-branded latex, memory foam and innerspring mattresses, said Stuart Carlitz, Eclipse and Eastman House chief executive officer.
Mohit Rubber also is ramping up latex production to supply Eclipse licensees around the world with latex cores and toppers at reduced rates, Carlitz said. Plans are in the works to produce gel toppers, as well.
The Master Group of Industries in Lahore, Pakistan, has licensed the Eastman House name for Pakistan and the Middle East and will operate at Eastman House of Pakistan. According to its website, the Master Group manufactures a range of products and counts the government of Pakistan and the United Nations among its many national and international customers.
“The Master Group is one of Pakistan’s largest corporations,” Carlitz said. “Their prime focus initially will be supplying their 300 retail stores in Pakistan, as well as business development in the United Arab Emirates and Dubai.”
Plans are in the works to open a mattress plant in Dubai, exclusively for the production of the Eastman House brand, with distribution to the region’s hospitality industry and expansion throughout the Middle East.
The Eclipse brand has an established presence in the Middle East, Carlitz added. Licensee Emirates Steel Wool Mfg. Est., based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, distributes Eclipse bedding across the region.
The deal with Master Group was inked in May after Carlitz made initial contact with Master Group Executive Director Shahzad Malik at ISPA EXPO in Indianapolis in March.
“They were here to find a prominent, high-quality American brand with a long heritage,” Carlitz said. “They looked at many and chose Eastman House. I look forward to building a mutually rewarding relationship with both Eastman House of Pakistan and Eclipse of India.”
