Sleep shop chain Sleepy’s, in partnership with mattress major Sealy, donated new mattress sets and bedding to the audience of the “Rachael Ray Show,” all of whom had suffered losses due to Hurricane Sandy. The special segment aired Dec. 17.
The retailer also assisted more hurricane victims with a donation of 100 bed sets–earmarked for victims of Sandy–to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Bethpage, N.Y., a Catholic charity that aids needy families and individuals of all denominations.
The Hicksville, N.Y.-based retailer coordinated both giveaways as part of its philanthropic “Bedder Days” program established in 2011 to assist victims of natural disasters and other displaced people.
Sealy, headquartered in Trinity, N.C., donated 133 mattress sets, allowing audience members of the “Rachael Ray Show” to select their mattress size and comfort level.
“Our mission is to provide healthy sleep for everyone, but particularly for those affected by a disaster,” said Adam Blank, Sleepy’s chief operating officer. “The first steps to recovery and normalcy are often associated with sleeping in your own bed.”
Jodi Allen, Sealy chief marketing officer, added that “Sealy is committed to helping make a difference in the lives of others and it’s through this brand promise that we’re excited to be involved in this unique opportunity with Sleepy’s, to directly aid the victims of Superstorm Sandy.”
